Raiders finish 6th at 1st Annual Lady Raider Indoor Invitational

MEET RESULTS

The Bloomington Raiders hosted their 1st Annual Indoor Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan this past Saturday finishing 6th out of 12 teams.  The meet featured perennial powerhouses, Chicago Morgan Park, Evanston, and Rock Island, as well as the strong individually talented teams like Galesburg, Bloomington Central Catholic and Chicago Lindbloom.  The meet also featured fellow Big 12 Conference members, Champaign Centennial, Eisenhower, and MacArthur with Washington representing the Mid-Illini Conference.

Meg Fitzgerald (Jr)  led the Purple Raiders with a 3rd place finish in the 800m in a Indoor PR of 2:27.06.  Kayla Nesby (Sr) tossed an Indoor PR in the SP of 36-0 to finish 4th in which the top 3 throws in the event exceeded 37-0.  Chrissy Little achieved two Indoor PR’s against strong competition, finishing 5th in the 55H (9.96) and 6th in the LJ 15-6.5. Freshmen Christina Holstein matched her height from the Hinsdale Central meet, finishing 3rd in the PV with a height of 5-6.

The 3200 saw two double scorers for the Raiders with Ashley Baker (So) finishing 4th in 15:15.67 and Vidhi finishing just shy of a medal in 6th place at 16:07.81.

The Raiders closed out the meet with a 5th place finish in the 4 x 400 in 4:25.68. Inspired by a dominant lead-off leg from Meg Fitzgerald (62.2) the easily won their heat.  Passing the baton for the Raiders Chrissy Little (66.5), Lauren Huff, (70.0) and Diamond Johnson(66.9) passed the baton

The young members on our team got a taste of their first high school competition and hopefully take away some incentive to use practice time to its full effectiveness.  Veteran members got an opportunity to compete against state caliber competition and gauge their progress to this point from last year.

Next up for the Lady Raiders is the Big 12 Conference meet on March 12, 2012 beginning at 4:00 at IWU Shirk Center.

The 2012 Season is here, Practice has begun!

The 2012 season kicked off Monday with 24 athletes reporting for practice.  Three more athletes were added on Tuesday bringing the roster up to 27 athletes.  The distance runners wrapped up to go out and run in the elements, while the sprinters, throwers, jumpers, and hurdlers went straight to the weight room.  The Tuesday weather was tolerant enough to get all the groups outside to get in some running.  The staff is tremendously excited to get season underway and have been motivated by the postive attitudes shown.  The attitude will need to be sustained as the Raiders prepare for the transition to an even more competitive 2012 meet schedule and arguably the toughest 3A Sectional in the state.  We will be a young team (21 Fr-So) and each week we will get better and better.  Youth does not mean there isn’t quality just means the staff will have to be patient in its development.  It’s not how you start…..but how you finish.
